The Place or Mat command is used to send a dog to their “place” for an indefinite amount of time. This is a great command for all dogs. “Place” means the dog is to go to a rug, bed or blanket. They must have all 4 paws on the rug ideally they should lie down so they are comfortable and relaxed for a longer period of time. Place is a great command to use during dinner so the dog is not tempted to beg. Place can be used when visitors arrive or a delivery. For dogs with anxiety, “place” can be a comfort or safe place for them to decompress or relax.
